EXTRA Program Frequently Asked Questions

 

What is AYSO Extra?

AYSO Extra is a soccer program that is geared to those players who want a higher level of competition and training but do not want to play Club soccer. Extra teams will be formed by several regions in Section 10. The Extra teams will play against each other during the Fall soccer season (10 – 14 games) and will have playoffs at the end of the season in addition to possible inter-sectional tournaments.

 

What teams will be formed?

Region 39 will field Extra teams based upon coach and player participation.

 

Who will coach the team?

The teams will be coached by a volunteer coach (just like we do for regular AYSO).

Coaches will be announced after they have been selected.

 

What is the registration fee?

The registration fee will be $200 (cost may vary) for the Fall season. The reason that this is higher than regular AYSO is to cover the cost of home and away uniforms, training t-shirts, and other fees associated with the program.

 

How long will the season last?

The fall season will begin practicing in August (like we do for the regular AYSO season) with regular season and playoffs running through November. In addition, there will be opportunities for inter-sectional tournaments which we expect to take place in January

with the State Championships in March.

 

What is the time commitment for practice?

Practices will be twice a week for 90 minutes each practice session beginning in the beginning of August.

 

Will there be tournaments after the Fall Season?

Yes. Extra teams will be allowed to participate in pre-season tournaments and AYSO invitational tournaments which will take place during November through June. The cost to enter into each of these tournaments will run $40 to $50 per player per tournament. In

addition, there will be some pre-season tournaments in August and September which will only be open to Extra teams. The cost will also run $40 - $50 per player. The total cost of tournaments generally runs from $250 - $300.

 

How do players get chosen for the Extra team?

Players who are interested in playing on an Extra team should attend the tryouts which

are posted on the website (coming soon). Pre-registration is not necessary however preferred. They just need to show up for the tryouts with the documentation listed on the tryout form.The more tryout sessions the player attends, the better opportunity they have to show their skills to the selection committee. The selection committee will consist of independent members from our Region and professional trainers. Players who are selected for the team will be notified no later than June 1st.

 

How will a player register for the team?

Players who are selected for the Extra team will be asked to register for the Fall Season

and pay their registration fee as soon as they are selected to ensure they are committed to the team. All others will be able to register for the early registration or the regular registration as posted on our website.

 

How many players will be on a team?

This will be just like the regular AYSO season, so the number of players on a team will

be as follows:

U10 – 9 or 10 players

U11 – 12 players

U12 - 12 players

U13 – 14 players

U14 – 14 players

 

Will the Extra program utilize the ¾ play rule?

Yes. All players who regularly attend practice and are committed to the team will play at

least ¾ of every game.
